Salvaged and the Market Scene

I send a great thank you to all of those who have been showing support to Salvaged and purchasing its merchandise! Salvaged is heading to the local markets around Philadelphia! So many people, including myself, love local markets because they give opportunities for entrepreneurs to come into the mass local market. Granted online is a great way to get into an even bigger market by going international, but you sometimes have to start smaller in order to go bigger. I will be posting dates on here and on twitter as to where I will be and when so that if you want to stop by in person and get to know the artists behind the merchandise I would love to meet you!

This is a great step for Salvaged to continue to move toward their greater vision of owning their own coffee house/store. I will be adding new scarves and pillows this week so keep your eyes on the twitter updates!!

Adventures in Drapery

This week I am beginning the interior decorating portion of our newly renovated apartment. I began my adventure this week with finding a magnificent pattern at JoAnn Fabrics that is loud and proud with all its colors! I am one for bold patterns and colors and feel as if many people shy away from such things. Yet, I think when you create a base with great colors such as grey, red and black, you can bring in all sorts of colors to accent with! I have never made drapes before, so this will be an experiment on my part! I believe they should be simple (as far as the window drapes are concerned), however, I have a little storage area above our fridge that I am covering with curtains and am going to experiment with mixing different fabrics and patterns to give it a unique look. I will most definitely post pictures when I have them completed!

The drapes I will be working on tomorrow are for our living room! I have not even found fabric for our bedroom or bathroom yet! My fabric swatches for the headboard were shipped today (very excited for them to come)! Once I figure out what our headboard will be covered in, then I can venture into making a simple duvet cover, finding fabric to compliment the headboard, and then make the curtains for that room! We are still not complete in our renovations due to a hold up on our bathroom! We are hoping to be able to paint it this week and begin feeling settled in to our new surroundings! Stay tuned for pictures of my adventures in drapery, headboards, and so much more!

National Sewing Month

Who knew!?! I would have never guessed that there was a national sewing month! HA! It thrilled me from head to toe when I walked in to JoAnn Fabrics today and saw that sign! Salvaged is always trying new things for its customers as far as designs, fabrics, or ideas,  so we would like to know what you are working on for national sewing month? I would love to know what designs, fabrics, or projects you are working with or on this month or this season! So chime in and let us know what you, our readers, are doing!

Facelift for Salvaged

My sincere apologies for my absence on the Salvaged blog! My husband (Nathan) and I (Bethann) decided that we needed to makeover our apartment to a contemporary style from the country style we have known and loved that was passed down to us by other people when we got married over four years ago! Thus far, we have painted two rooms, steamed carpets, hauled out old furniture, bought & assembled new furniture, and are now in the process of picking out our accent fabrics!

We have made two trips to a WONDERFUL store called Ikea, purchased a completely new apartment of furnishings, and (without knowing what we were getting into) assembled them all in a span of three twelve-hour days! lol =D Yes that is right! It took three days, with barely any breaks, to complete our furniture assembly! However, I would like to say that we purchased a love seat, two seating chairs, a large bookshelf with workstation (Salvaged space), a wall mounted mirror cabinet, and a 118" X 74.5" wardrobe, plus of all the assembly for what we decided to put in the wardrobe (drawers, shelves, etc.). Lessons learned from this experience: hire someone else to do it when it comes to a large amount of Ikea furniture!

Our past week has been a blur, but in the long run it will be well worth it because we have maximized the space in our 600 sq. ft. apartment! Salvaged has more room than ever at my workstation and wall space for creativity to run free! I will post pictures of the completed apartment, but not until I have completed everything in the apartment, which will include curtains, duvet cover, headboard, artwork, and pillows. I am going to go have fun in the fabric store later this morning to start to find those fabrics!

We are not done with the renovation yet due to a hold up on our bathroom. While we were gone over Labor day weekend our landlords were so kind to install a new shower for us. However, it has taken much longer than anticipated, and we have to wait until it is completed so we can paint and get back to normal life! WHEW! That was quite the post! If you feel tired just reading about my week, my poor body feels 20 years older living my week! Whoever said you are not old at 26 did not do renovation at my age! I think it might take me a week or two to recover physically from this when it is finally finished!

Just a few teaser pictures for you of our process this week! ENJOY!

Fall, Here We Come!

Today was a very busy day! This morning I finished the scarves for our new fall 2010 line and we did a photo shoot at an open farm near here. The farm is great because it was turned into public property where people can enjoy concerts, buy plots of land for a garden, or take their dogs to walk and play. It still retains its historical buildings and it provided quite the landscape for our photo shoot today! We were fighting an approaching storm overhead, so we hurried to get in all the shots we could while the weather allowed. I think the pictures turned out great! I'm so grateful for Nathan's amazing eye for landscape and architecture which adds to our photos! Make sure you stop by the shop to see the new line we are so proud of: www.artfire.com/users/salvaged.

We are continuing to create original designs for our fall scarves, so be sure to check in with us at the shop (www.artfire.com/users/salvaged) or follow us on twitter (followsalvaged) or find us on facebook (Salvaged). There is much more to come! We will be having sales on our pillows and hair accessories shortly so don't miss out!! Here are a few photos of our new fall products:
